Beauty and the Beast is a tale for all ages. Even the littlest fairy tale lovers deserve a good story! Or grown-ups who are still kids at heart!

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST by Cynthia Rylant with illustrations by Meg Park is breath-taking, a work of art for any Beauty and the Beast fan.

First, let's talk about the fact that Meg Park is a character designer with Disney, Nickelodeon, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures, and more. Which means....her art style is STUNNING. You know how you sometimes see concept art come out of the various animation houses, and it always has that whimsy to it? Imagine that style....IN A PICTURE BOOK.

When I saw the cover for this retelling of Beauty and the Beast, it screamed "Disney" to me despite not saying the title was Disney's Beauty and the Beast. Despite thumbing through the story and seeing it based on the original French retelling, not the Disney retelling. (Though the book WAS published y Disney Hyperion, which is the only hint at a Disney connection!) It's all in the artwork!

I mean, just LOOK at some of these visuals:

Second, let's talk about the author, Cynthia Rylant. She won the prestigious 1993 Newbery Medal for MISSING MAY, as well as a 1987 Newbery Honor for A FINE WHITE DUST. She won Caldecott Honors in 1982 for WHEN I WAS YOUNG IN THE MOUNTAINS and 1985 for THE RELATIVES CAME. Many of her books have also won various awards. She is perhaps best-known for her easy reader series Henry and Mudge, which is taught in many elementary schools.

When I saw that Cynthia Rylant and Meg Park teamed up to write a picture book, I already knew it was going to be one fantastic, breath-taking read!

Take a peek at how awesome this new version of BEAUTY AND THE BEAST is!

I thought a video could show this book with all its breath-taking art better than just talking about it ever could!

(And don't worry, I don't show EVERY page, so there are still plenty of surprises in store for you!)
